Preschool, lunchtime, and peanut free classrooms.
On January 23, Little J turned three! Yeah!! We celebrated by going to Disneyland where he had an amazing time. But for Little J, three meant the end of early intervention services from the county. Three is when the school district picks up and the children that still need help start preschool. So we spent part of December and most of January taking Little J for evaluations and doctors appointments. I was afraid that he was going to be too high functioning for preschool and was going to be left with no services. After a couple of evaluations by the speech therapist, psychologist and autism specialist, we found out that Little J would start preschool. Not only does Little J qualify for services, but he was diagnosed with “autistic-like” behaviors. Only a neurologist can diagnose autism (and Ben and I are waiting until Little J is a little older for that) so the school district diagnoses “autistic-like” behaviors.
Thankfully, Little J has two of the most awesome teachers in the world. He goes to a structured autism classroom, a less structured special education classroom and three days a week to an IBI class for an extra hour in the afternoon. So I have to pack lunches and snacks five days a week. His favorite right now is SoyNut Butter.
Both of Little J’s classrooms are labeled “peanut free” and have signs outside the doors. So I had to chuckle a little when I picked him up on Wednesday and his teacher asked what I had sent with him for lunch. I thought for a second and said SoyNut Butter (it happened to be the creamy kind with honey). She told me that when they saw the sandwich it looked and smelled like peanut butter! LOL I think they actually hesitated to give it to him (which by the way I actually love).
Anyway, if you can eat soy but are staying away from peanuts, try SoyNut Butter. If you want to know how to get your hands on some of the yummy, peanut free goodness that comes in many flavors, click here: The SoyNut Butter Company
